Rebellion within NC as veterans demand action against Omar’s close aide
‘Snake in the Grass’

Early Times Report

Jammu, May 29: National Conference leadership is up in arms against one of Omar Abdullah’s close aid, demanding his expulsion from party’s membership without any delay.
As per the highly placed sources privy to this development, the party leadership especially the veterans have sought stern action against Omar’s close aid for undermining the party’s position post-August 5 episode, terming the young functionary and close confidant of party vice president snake in the grass. “The aide in question is not NC man in original. He is an opportunist who saw an opportunity in PDP and was there till 2008 and then left PDP and joined the national conference to seek a ticket from his constituency. When he was denied the ticket, he left NC and contested the 2008 assembly polls as an independent candidate. He lost that too. When NC formed the government in 2009, he saw an opportunity again for himself and arrogated the role of an absolute Sycophant. Since then he became our liability. What he has done now is beyond repair and it is high time that the opportunists like him be shown the door,” says a senior NC leader.
He added that there is growing resentment against the person within the party ranks with leadership questioning how come is the party not acting against him for violating NC’s stand.
This person in question had recently pitched for reconciliation with the government and raised speculation about the party’s intent of moving on from the issue of Article 370, which was scrapped in August 2019 stripping the erstwhile state of its special status. However, Omar Abdullah has maintained that the party’s stand on scrapping of J&K’s special status remains unchanged.
Meanwhile, PDP sensed the opportunity to target its old rival, NC over its changing stances. “We have seen how in recent times there is an internal rift inside the NC. Their chief spokesperson also questioned the stance taken by the party. In the larger context, it is for NC to decide what will be their stance,” PDP spokesman told media on Friday.
Meanwhile, within the party ranks, there is growing resentment against Omar’s close aide and the leadership has been, as per sources, quite vocal against him for raising suspicion against party’s stand in the public eye. “All our hard work has gone down the drain. We were targeting PDP and BJP for the mess. Our own man made us villain so meticulously that we couldn’t understand his great game. Such nefarious miscreants must be identified and nipped in the bud,” says another NC leader.
