Assistant Public Prosecutor Caught with Contraband, Suspended

Jammu, May 29: An assistant public prosecutor (APP) caught with contraband and has been in judicial lock-up since May 4 was placed under suspension by the J&K Government.
Posted in the Court of Judicial Magistrate, Ukhral in Ramban as Prosecuting Officer, Waseem Ahamd Qureshi has been suspended by the Home Department.
Pending further enquiry into the conduct of Waseem Ahmad Qureshi, he shall be deemed to have been placed under suspension w.e.f. 04.05.2020 i.e. the date since when he has been in custody”, Govt order no 119-Home of 2020, dated 29/05/2020 read.
“As per the report received from the Director General of Prosecution, J&K, Waseem Ahmad Qureshi, Assistant Public Prosecutor in the Court of Judicial Magistrate, Ukhral (Prosecuting Officer), while on his way from Rajouri on 04.05.2020 was found to be in possession of eight grams of contraband , by the Rajouri Police and case FIR No. 230/2020, under section 8(a). 21/29 NDPS Act. 1985. has been registered in Police Station, Rajouri, against Waseem Ahmad Qureshi. It has been informed that the accused officer was detained and remained in custody for more than 48 hours and still continues to be on judicial remand”, the order read and added having been in Police custody for more than forty eight hours, Waseem Ahmad Qureshi, is required been placed under suspension, in terms of the provisions of Civil Services (Classification, Control and Appeal) Rules, 1956.
Sources in Police department told ET that Qureshi a resident of Mendhar sub-division of Poonch district confessed before the Police that he has been taking the drug for a long time. “On his confession police is working out various aspects to unearth the nexus people are involved in drug trafficking”, the sources said.
