Travelers continue to push Corona Virus cases in JK, 1056 travelers test positive so far

SRINAGAR, May 30: The union territory of Jammu & Kashmir continues to witness a spike in Corona Virus cases with 177 fresh cases being reported in the past 24 hours. The cases were reported from both the Kashmir and Jammu divisions of the union territory. Reports said that 125 fresh cases of COVID-19 were reported from Kashmir valley and 52 such cases came to the fore from Jammu division. Following today’s fresh cases the number of positive cases in Jammu & Kashmir reached 2341. There are 1405 active positive cases of COVID-19 in the union territory.
Baramulla tops the list for today as 40 fresh cases of Corona Virus were reported followed by Srinagar 26 cases, Anantnag 19 cases, Shopian 16 cases, Ramban 14 cases, Udhampur 13 cases, Budgam 10 cases, Samba seven cases, Kathua and Rajouri six cases each, Pulwama five cases, Kulgam four cases, Doda and Kupwara three cases each, Jammu two cases, Ganderbal, Bandipora and Reasi one case each.
The Jammu & Kashmir government through the media bulletin informed that 177 new positive cases of novel Corona Virus (COVID-19), 52 from Jammu division and 125 from Kashmir division, have been reported today thus taking the total number of positive cases in Jammu and Kashmir to 2341.
Moreover, 33 more COVID-19 patients have recovered and discharged from various hospitals, 16 from Jammu division and 17 from Kashmir division. Out of 2341 positive cases, 1405 are active positive, 908 have recovered and 28 have died; three in Jammu division and 25 in Kashmir division.
According to the bulletin, of the total 2,341 positive cases in Jammu & Kashmir, 1056 have been reported as travelers and 1285 have been reported as others. It said that out of 1, 64,581 test results available, 1, 62,240 samples have tested negative till date.
Additionally, till date 1, 65,225 travelers and persons in contact with suspected cases have been enlisted for surveillance which included 36,538 persons in home quarantine including facilities operated by government, 56 in hospital quarantine, 1,405 in hospital isolation and 43,514 under home surveillance. Besides, 83,684 persons have completed their surveillance period.
The bulletin said that Anantnag district has 314 positive cases, 187 active positive, 122 recovered, five deaths; Kulgam has 277 positive cases, 250 active positive, 23 recoveries, four deaths; Srinagar has 272 positive cases, 134 active positive, 131 recovered, seven deaths; Kupwara has 258 positive cases, 184 active positive, 74 recovered; Baramulla has 217 positive cases, 110 active positive, 102 recovered, five deaths.
“Shopian has 168 positive cases, 59 active positive, 108 recovered, one death; Bandipora has 146 positive cases, 11 active positive, 134 recovered, one death; Budgam has 99 positive cases, 36 active positive, 61 recovered, two deaths; Pulwama has 70 positive cases, 58 active positive, 12 recovered and Ganderbal has 32 positive cases, eight active positive, 24 recoveries,” reads the bulletin.
The bulletin said that Jammu has 130 positive cases, 91 active positive, 37 recoveries, two deaths; Ramban has 89 positive cases, 74 active positive, 15 recoveries; Kathua has 71 positive cases, 52 active positive, 19 recovered; Udhampur has 65 positive cases, 39 active positive, 25 recovered, one death; Samba has 41 positive cases, 30 active positive, 11 recoveries.
“Poonch has 38 active positive cases; Rajouri has 27 positive cases, 22 active positive, five recovered; Reasi has 14 positive cases, 11 active positive, three recovered, Kishtwar has eight positive cases, seven active positive, one recovered and Doda has five positive cases, four active positive case, one recovered,” reads the bulletin.
The bulletin has informed the public that smokers are at higher risk of COVID-19 infection, Stop Smoking now;•the act of smoking means that fingers (and possibly contaminated cigarettes) are in contact with lips which increase the possibility of transmission of virus from hand to mouth. Smokers may also already have lung disease or reduced lung capacity which would greatly increase risk of serious illness.
The people are further informed that, the best way to protect themselves from COVID-19 is by maintaining physical distance of at least 2 metres from others, frequently cleaning hands with an alcohol based hand sanitizer or washing them with soap and water and following good respiratory etiquettes and hygiene.
