Early Times Report

Jammu, May 30: Ousted Deputy mayor of SMC has finally began spilling beans about the corrupt practices ruling roost in the corporation, alleging that several offices have taken huge amounts to leave illegal constructions unchecked in the summer capital of the erstwhile state.
Former Deputy Mayor and corporator Sheikh Imran has come up with a startling revelations that “money has changed hands” in SMC which has emboldened the violators to raise illegal constructions during the pendemic lockdown.
In a tweet Sheikh Imran alleged, “Illegal construction going on even in COVID at Mir mohalla malaratta padan opp. Al munawar plaza. Allegedly ward officer involved &have paid their bosses in smc. Why is chief enforcement silent? ” said the ousted deputy mayor while demanding an end to illegal constructions forthwith and an impratial probe. However, the allegations have come at a time when Imran himself has been ousted as the Deputy Mayor by virtue of No Confidence motion passed by the corporation corporators. “Why was he silent when he was there part and parcel of SMC? Why he didn’t order any probe at that time? The reality is that he was involved in self aggrandizement and now out of limelight, this man is again trying to grab attention,” says a netizen.
Another social media user accused the former deputy mayor of getting involved in deception and deceit through such controversial posts. “No doubt the corruption is ruling roost in most of the government departments but how come has he become the crusader against corruption when he is out of office. Why when he was holding an important position preferred criminal silence?,” he said.
Seeking publicity through theatrics isn’t new for Imran who had prefixed Muhajid with his name on social media. On February 28, last year, his inefficiency got exposed to the core when a simple official communication as per the routine was made by the Under Secretary with Chief Secretary to the Principal Secretary home department and asked him to examine and take appropriate action in the matter related to the application submitted by Sheikh Imran to ban PUBG in the state. This official communication was mistaken as a banning order by many people including the Deputy Mayor Sheikh Imran. While trying to grab the opportunity to steal limelight hurriedly drafted a press statement and claimed credit for the same. The press statement had the headline: “After Deputy Mayor Intervention, PUBG banned in J&K.” The statement had quoted the deputy mayor in the punchline as having said ‘Our youth are our future and will not allow such things in our society which would affect their mental health.’
