SUF demands reservation of 10 PoJK seats for Sikhs, refugees
5/31/2020 9:52:43 PM
EARLY TIMES REPORT

JAMMU, May 31: Hailing the constitution of Delimitation Commission for initiating the process of delimiting the assembly constituencies, the Sikh United Front (SUF) J&K has demanded reservation of 10 assembly seats (5 for Sikhs and 5 for PoJK migrants) out of the 24 PoJK seats in the forthcoming exercise.
The demand was raised in a telephonic meeting of the Sikh United Front J&K, and an amalgam of Various Sikh Organizations of J&K, held under the chairmanship of Sudershan Singh Wazir, Chairman Sikh United Front J&K, and joined by Dayal Singh Wazir Chairman Shiromani Akali Dal J&K, HS Raina, ex-General Secy DGPC Jammu, Mohinder Singh Chief Organizer Bhai Kaniya Nishkam Sewa Society J&K and ex-Member DGPC Jammu and Darbinder Singh President Shiromani Akali Dal J&K and Kulwant Singh Khajuria Joint Secretary Shiromani Akali Dal J&K.
The Front demanded that Delimitation Commission should earmark 10 assembly seats (5 for Sikhs and 5 for PoJK 1947 migrants) out of 24 reserved assembly seats of PoJK so that they could have their proper political representation. As thousands of people fled from Pakistan during partition and they are living in different parts of J&K and are unable to find proper representation of their political concerns due to their scattered population, Wazir demanded that such a system should be carved out that PoJK refugees of 1947 are able to elect their representatives which should comprise of only PoJK 1947 refugees as electors.
Wazir said that from decades Sikhs have been denied political reservation by all parties in J&K and had suffered in the state due to lack of proper representation at political stages. Reserving the seats for Sikhs will help in the welfare of community and Sikhs will be able to elevate their voice at all levels of political participation. Wazir also urged Prime Minister of India Narendra Modi and Union Home minister Amit Shah to have atleast one Sikh as member in the delimitation commission so that political grievances of Sikhs can be properly addressed.
