Udhampur, May 31: Many link roads in Udhampur district are in shambles and need to be repaired forthwith, locals told Early Times on Sunday.
They said that hundreds of commuters put their lives at risk everyday by travelling on these dilapidated roads. “The Chenani-Champari Road has become a death trap,” the locals added.
“Many villages are linked through Champari Road. This road took nearly 12-years to get completed but it continues to be in a very bad shape. This road was inaugurated by the former MLAs and Ministers more than six times just to gain publicity,” locals added.
Sudesh Kumar, a resident said, “This road caters to around six to seven thousand people. Traffic snarls at Chenani have become an order of the day. Only 300 metre stretch has been damaged due to landslides and big boulders but department has not taken any initiative to repair this stretch till date.”
They said the critical condition of the road has badly affected the socio economic status of the masses of the area. “Till date no retaining or protection wall has been build to protect the said road,” they added.
