6/1/2020 11:15:05 PM
EARLY TIMES REPORT

JAMMU, June 1: The adamant attitude of administration of Sher-e-Kashmir University of Agricultural Sciences and Technology (SKUAST) Jammu can be gauged from the fact that despite the report of two COVID-19 positive cases in the varsity campus, the administration continues to function, defying government order.
Sources in the varsity told Early Times that first SKUAST Jammu administration defied government order directing to close down all educational institution till June 15, 2020 and then after two positive cases reported in the varsity campus has denied to close it down and continued to function by forcing staff to remain present.
“Instead of taking immediate action of closing down the varsity as soon as the report of two persons of COVID-19 positive which includes a Junior Research Fellow and a peon came into light, the Vice Chancellor showed reluctance on the seriousness of the matter and continue to take meetings with the staff, by displaying lack of administrative maturity,” they alleged.
They further said that the first positive case was reported on May 27, 2020, wherein a Junior Research Fellow from department of Anatomy, who had returned to Jammu after visiting his native State of Rajasthan and was admitted in the hospital for further treatment and today the peon of same department, who was in touch with the JRF also found positive of COVID-19, which created panic among the entire staff of the varsity but yet the VC has not taken call to close down the varsity as precautionary measure as per guidelines. They further informed that such casual approach of head of the institution can put the lives of other staff at risk.
As per government order Vide 605-JK (GAD) of 2020 dated 29-05-2020, it was directed that all educational institutions/training institutes in the Union Territory of Jammu and Kashmir shall remain closed till 15th of June, 2020, which was not honored by the SKUAST Admin.
But Administration of SKUAST Jammu, in its order AUJ/Est/20-21/G-681/468-548 dated 31-05-2020 to its all Deans, Director, Head of Divisions, Incharge Stations/ Sub-Stations/KVKs and controlling Officers to prepare roaster as to ensure that 50% of the staff below the level of Assistant Professor/ Assistant Registrar/Asstt Comptroller/ equivalent attend the offices on alternate days.
