AIJMS delegation calls on Director Agri, projects farmers’ issues
6/2/2020 9:52:20 PM
EARLY TIMES REPORT

JAMMU, June 2: A delegation of All India Jat Maha Sabha (AIJMS) called on Director Agriculture, Jammu at his office in Talab Tillo.
The meeting was held to raise certain issues which could not be avoided at this present time.
Led by AIJMS J&K president and former Mayor Jammu, Ch Manmohan Singh, the delegation was comprised of Sarpanchs from RS Pura and Vijaypur along with BDC Ramgarh Chairman, Darshan Choudhary.
During their meeting, Ch Manmohan Singh informed the Director that farmers are having certain issues this year and the present conditions are also not working in their favour. It is imperative for Govt to increase subsidy on all agricultural products upto to minimum 50% of the value. Moreover, with labour migration, maintenance of their crops is becoming quite difficult. Shortage of labour will affect their harvest period. On this the farmers are demanding Combine Machines to be given on 50% subsidy to every block of Jammu Province. Ch Manmohan Singh asked the Director to review previous relief offers and see how the Govt has exempted registration fee and token tax on tractors but in these circumstances Transport authorities have started charging 9% charges on the bill as registration fee and token taxes from the farmer community. This is a clear case of injustice and these farmers need to be exempted from such taxes and fee for agricultural purposes.
Singh informed the Director that our lands are getting destroyed by local locusts (Tidda) swarming over them. This needs to be dealt with at the earliest. Director Agriculture heard him patiently and assured him that he will order the spraying of these areas. This will prevent locusts (Tidda and Sundi) from attacking the crop. He also assured the delegation that he will compile the necessary data for their demands and take it to the right platform.
