On duty doctor left in emergency, puts pregnant patient to risk: DC orders enquiry

KUPWARA, June 2: Twenty two fresh positive cases have been reported, while two more deaths have occurred today taking the death toll to 08 here in north Kashmir.
According to district wise break up, 10 fresh positive cases were reported in Kupwara including 09 others, 01 travelers, 289 are cumulative, 212 are active positive, 01 recovered and 01 death has occurred today.
In Baramulla, among 07 fresh positive cases, 05 are others, 02 travelers, 245 are cumulative, 136 are active positive while as 06 deaths have occurred so far including of today. In Bandipora 05 fresh positive cases were reported, 151 are cumulative, 16 are active positive cases as on date and 01 death has occurred so far.
A 27-year-old man from Lolab area of Kupwara district was confirmed on Tuesday to have died of Covid-19 and an 80 year old woman from Baramulla who died of multiple ailments have been tested positive for Covid-19 infection. Meanwhile according to leading English news agency RNA that said an on-duty doctor has allegedly left the hospital during duty hours without permission even as a pregnant lady was brought to hospital for an emergency surgery in Sub District Hospital Kreeri, Putting her life in danger.
The patient according to hospital authorities was later shifted to Baramulla owing to serious condition. The consultant anesthetist at SDH Kreeri left the hospital on Monday without permission from BMO even as a pregnant lady had been brought to hospital and required an emergency surgery.
The sources said that without the anesthetist, the concerned gynecologist could not undertake surgery risking the lives of both patient and the yet to be born infant.
The BMO Kreeri has also confirmed that the concerned doctor didn’t seek permission from him and left the hospital even during duty hours. He said he has written to Deputy Commissioner for necessary action.
Meanwhile Deputy Commissioner Baramulla has ordered an enquiry into the conduct of the doctor and has asked Tehsildar Kreeri to submit the report till Wednesday.
