Early Times Report

REASI, June 4: The residents of Sadeen Panchayat in Khothian village in the tehsil Pouni of this district have alleged that the local staff of Rural Development Department (RDD) has prepared a fictitious list of beneficiaries for the Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojna (PMAY).
Sources told Early Times that the RDD comprising of Block Development Officer (BDO) Pouni along with the concerned village level worker (VLW) and the local Sarpanch and Panchs have prepared a fictitious list of beneficiaries to be covered under the PMAY in the Sadeen Panchayat.
“Some six months back a committee comprising of BDO Pouni, VLW, Sarpanch and Panchs carried out a survey with regards to allotment of houses under PMAY in the Sadeen Panchayat. The houses need to be allotted to the people living below poverty line (BPL) and don’t have government employment as such,” said sources.
Sources said that the list compiled by the committee members was a fictitious one since none of the beneficiaries belong to the BPL category. They said the beneficiaries are well off and at least two members of these families are working as employees in the various government departments of Jammu & Kashmir.
Sources said that Deputy Commissioner Reasi, Indu Kanwal Chib should hold a thorough probe in the matter so that the truth comes out and the houses are allotted to the people who deserve them. They said that Panchs and Sarpanch have avoided the deserving ones since they did not vote for them in the last Panchayat elections.
“It is important to hold a probe in the matter so that stern action is taken against the concerned BDO, VLW, GRS, Panchs and Sarpanch and justice is done to the deserving ones. Nobody should be allowed to trample over the system and the justice should ultimately prevail,” said sources.
When contacted, BDO Pouni, Om Prakash said that the department has no role in the whole affair and it is the prerogative of the Sarpanch and Panchs whom to include and who to drop in the PMAY list. He said that the department can take the action only when the issue is highlighted by the media.
