Jammu youth deserve a better deal

The recruitment drive announced by the Jammu and Kashmir Government has once again shifted the focus on unemployment rate in the Union Territory. The deserving candidates are hoping that this time around they won’t face any discrimination and they would get their due share.
The youth from Jammu region have been at the receiving end for the past many years as the Kashmir centric political dispensations always tried to keep them at bay. But with the transition of the erstwhile J&K State into a Union Territory, people of Jammu region are hoping that the discrimination with them will end and they won’t be deprived of their share anymore.
The past experiences of Jammu youth have been very bitter. They faced lot of hardships during the PDP-BJP rule from 2015 to 2018.
They (youth) went out of way to support the saffron party in 2014 assembly elections and it led to BJP winning 25 out of 37 assembly seats in the Jammu region. It was for the first time in seventy years that BJP went on to share the power in J&K. However, the recruitments which took place during the PDP-BJP regime were biased and these revolved around Kashmir only.
The recruitment scams which came to fore during the erstwhile regime shocked everyone. Deserving candidates from both the divisions (Jammu and Kashmir) were left out and the people who enjoyed the political backing were selected.
All the rules where thrown to winds to accommodate the workers of a particular political party and special preference was given to the kith and kin of a few politicians. Even the people who were close to Jamaat-e-Islami— a party which preached sedition and separatism—were also provided with the government jobs. These revelations came to fore soon after the PDP-BJP coalition collapsed in J&K. This paved the way for imposition of Governor’s rule in June 2018. The skeletons which tumbled out shocked everyone. The most interesting part was that it happened under the very nose of the BJP leaders, who were a part of the government. These leaders didn’t even utter a word when they were in power as they didn’t want to annoy the people with whom they were sharing power.
The massive recruitment drive announced by the government in J&K is a welcome step but the helmsmen should dwell into past and see for themselves what all Jammu has faced despite people giving decisive mandate to BJP in the three elections which were held in J&K since 2014.
