Opening of schools amid COVID-19 putting children’s lives at stake: Aditi
6/6/2020 10:15:05 PM
EARLY TIMES REPORT

JAMMU, June 6: Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leader Aditi Sharma on Saturday said that the decision of Government to open schools in Union Territory of Jammu and Kashmir is too early and the measures being adopted are too little.
She urged Government to review its decision in this context and ensure complete safety of students and teachers before allowing them into schools.
Sharma said that the decision is not only unwise but will prove extremely dangerous, putting children’s lives at stake.
“What is the logic of opening schools when every day more than 100 people are testing positive for Covid-19. How can we put the life of our children in risk,” she said.
“Reopening of schools is not as easy as it is made to appear. One thing is clear, parents will never risk the lives of their children by sending them to schools in the middle of the worsening coronavirus crisis,” she said.
She asked the government not to take chances with the health of children and check whether the schools have adequate infrastructure and training to implement Covid 19 precautions.
“It would also be impossible to make the small students follow the safety precautions especially maintaining social distance in schools. This is therefore not the right time to reopen schools. Government should wait for the contagion to be reined in before children can go back to school” she said.
