EARLY TIMES REPORT

JAMMU, June 17: Solving a blind murder case, Satwari Police arrested husband and in-laws of woman who was killed under mysterious circumstances in Chatha area in April this year.
On 23rd of April Police Post Chatha received an information that one Rekha Devi (31) wife of Chander Kant Tiwari, died at her house Raipur Satwari. Since the death was occurred in suspicious circumstances an inquest proceeding under section 174 of CrPC, was initiated by the Police.
In order to ascertain the veracity of truth behind the death a team led by Insp. Gurmeet Singh SHO Police Station Satwari and SI Rakesh Roshan rushed to the spot under the supervision of SDPO City South Jammu and inspected the spot minutely. During investigation it surfaced that the husband of the deceased had a past history of torturing his wife and also used to restrict her from visiting her paternal house.
The police inquired the mother of deceased namely Sushma Devi telephonically invited Rekha on 22nd of April to attend Satsang which was scheduled to be held on 24th April at her paternal home. On the morning of 23rd April deceased Rekha Devi insisted her husband to attend the function. On this a heated argument started between husband and wife which was joined by other family members including her mother-in-law named Sunehla Devi and sister-in-law named Sunita Tiwari wife of Rishi Kumar Sharma of Village Batha, Raipur Satwari”. The police further stated “the family members caught hold of Rekha and Chanderkant hit his wife on her head with a heavy iron rod with the intention to end her life. In order to hush up their criminal act Chanderkant and his family members silently hid the dead body behind a parked car at their residence till evening with the intention to dispose off the dead body during night hours”. They later informed the parents of the deceased that Rekha Devi had left home without informing them. But their plan failed as one of the neighbours informed police and police started investigating the matter.
The post mortem report overruled the theory of in-laws that Rekha fell from stairs. The report indicated injury marks with blunt object on the head of the deceased. This was further corroborated by the statement of the eye witness in front of whom the entire episode occurred.
The statement of the witnesses and preliminary post-mortem report corroborated with the theory of murder as such the said inquest proceeding was converted and FIR No. 116/20 uner section 302 IPC has been registered against the husband of the deceased and others. During the course of investigation, the weapon of offence that is an iron rod has been recovered by the police from accused Chanderkant Tiwari at his residence.
