International Yoga Day celebrated across UT

Jammu, June 21: The 6th International day of Yoga, which is celebrated on 21st of June every year, is celebrated across the Union Territory of Jammu and Kashmir.
Various types of Yogasnas and Pranayam were practices during the functions, organized by social, political, religious, volunteer organizations, as well as individuals and common masses in their respective areas. Majority of the masses have also celebrated Yoga in their houses in view of the COVID-19 pandemic.
International Yoga Day of 2020 today celebrated in district Ramban with great enthusiasm. Considering the extra ordinary situation that has emerged out of the COVID 19 pandemic, this year virtual yoga sessions were organized besides taking special measures to avoid gatherings.
Deputy commissioner Ramban, Nazim Zai Khan had given instructions to Nodal Officer, Dr. Rakesh Kumar and District YOGA coordinator, Dr. Masood Iqbal Zargar to stream live sessions of Yoga demonstration throughout the Yoga week in collaboration with Information department as per the directions issued from Directorate of Indian Systems of Medicine.
“Yoga is Key to Wellness”. The competition was organized by Prof. Shashi Prabha, Prof. Moni Mehra and Prof. Shableen Kour of Department English under the guidance of worthy Principal Rita Bhagat and convener Prof. Narayan Dutt. The aim of such competitions was to create awareness among the masses about the importance of Yoga in our day to day life.
On the Eve of 6th International Yoga Day on 21st June, 2020. Department of English of GDC Paloura in collaboration with NSS, NCC unit (Both Boys and Girls) and Sports Department organized essay writing competition and video clips on Yoga on the theme.
7-days online workshop on “Yoga and Wellness” organized by GDC Kalakote in collaboration with EBSB to commemorate 6th International Yoga Day, 2020, which commenced on June 15, today gets concluded. The workshop has fulfilled it’s purpose to make participants aware about importance of different Yoga asanas and make them learn the systematic way to process them.
A total of 252 participants registered for this workshop from all over the country and took part in many events such as Essay Competition, Poster making Competition, quiz competition, Collage making competition etc. conducted during this workshop very enthusiastically.
GDC, BIllawar under the overall supervision, guidance and motivation of Principal, Prof. Sunil Uppal celebrated 6th International Yoga day by performing various online inter and intra-college activities at UG and PG level, starting from 16-06-2020 to 21-06-2020. On 16-06-2020, an expert lecture on various Yoga Assans was performed by Ahgrez Singh, Retd. Senior lecturer in Economics and a great social worker. During the lecture, he demonstrated various Yoga Assans and highlighted the importance of Yoga Assans in daily life as per the recent guidelines from ministry of Ayush, Govt. of India.
Govt. Degree College Dudu Basant Garh organized an online Inter-College Quiz competition on “Role of Yoga to tackle Covid-19 pandemic”.
The competition was an excellent way to ascertain how well the participants understood the role and importance of yoga to tackle present covid-19 pandemic situation and maintaining a healthier life style.
The competition was held under the supervision and guidance of Principal of the College Dr. Bhavnaish Chand. About 33 students from different colleges participated in this online quiz competition. First position was secured by Ms. Nikharika Sharma (VI-Sem) of Govt. MAM College Jammu, Second position was shared between five students, one each from GDC Batote and GDC Mahanpur and three students from Govt. MAM College Jammu, while third position was shared between two students one each from GDC Mahanpur and GDC Batote.
The event was organized by Prof. Pradeep Kumar Kundal, Head of the Dogri Dept. whereas Prof. Shaji Khan from GDC Udhampur acted as jury member. Principal of the College motivated the faculty members to organize such type of events in future for the benefits of students.
NCC wings of GDC Kathua (1st J&K Naval Unit NCC, 1 J&K Armed SQN. And 2 J&K Girls Bn) conducted a five days long activities w.ef 17 June 2020 to 21 June 2020.
The Activities were organised under the overall supervision and guidance of Prof. Assa Ram Sharma, Principal GDC Kathua. Video Blog contest was organized on 17-06-2020 in which a total number of 34 participants perform various yoga Assana at home and share their videos and images through online portals. On 18 -06-2020 online Poster making competition was organized in which a total number of 44 participants participated. Essay writing competition on theme “YOGA THE KEY TO WELLNESS” was organized on 19-06-2020 in which 53 participants participated.
On 21 June at 7:00 am the Yoga day was started with one hour long yoga exercise session in which NCC cadets actively participated in the session from home with their families. All these activities were organised under the supervision of Dr. Verinder Singh, Prof Amrik Singh and Dr. Rachna Devi (ANO’s three NCC wings of GDC kathua).
