Complacency can spell doom
6/26/2020 12:09:32 AM

Experts have once again cautioned the people that the COVID-19 may peak in coming days. In the past few days doctors and other experts have issued many warnings asking people not to abandon the precautionary measures like social distancing, wearing masks and using hand sanitizers.
Since the day lockdown has been lifted the COVID-19 positive cases have increased at a rapid pace across the country. There has been a big spike in the numbers. The only silver living seems to be that recovery rate has crossed 50% mark and the mortality rate has not been that high.
The number of cases in J&K has crossed 6500 mark and till date 90, COVID deaths have been recorded. The bottomline is that there is no respite from the virus and the bad news is that the experts have once again rung the alarm bells.
One fails to understand that why people are not realizing that the COVID curve has not flattened yet and they could pay a heavy price if they become complacent. In absence of vaccine or any specific drug taking precautions is the only way to save lives.
Reports about social distancing norms being violated and people not wearing masks are disturbing. It’s unfortunate that we can’t even follow simple instructions to keep ourselves safe. We as people have to act responsibly. If we fail to understand our responsibility, we may land up in a bigger soup than we are at present. A few States, like West Bengal, are once again going back into the lockdown mode as the governments in many places are finding it hard to control the spread of the COVID-19.
The vaccines and medicines aren’t coming and we have been told in clear terms that we have to learn to live with COVID-19. A few experts are of the opinion that people developing herd immunity is the best possible solution in absence of the cure. But the million dollar question is how long will it take to develop the herd immunity.
A few companies are claiming that they have come up with medicines to treat the virus, but there has been no official word on whether any specific drug can be considered to be the treatment for the COVID-19 or not. The virus which originated from Chinese city of Wuhan, has left the world grappling with number of issues, and in the given circumstances the only solution is self defence. There is an old adage that “precaution is better than cure” and when there is no cure, precaution is the only way out.
