Construction of underground bunkers begin in Sub Division Uri

KUPWARA, June 30: India army on Tuesday claimed to have foiled an infiltration bid at Parkian Gali sector in this north Kashmir district on intervening night of Monday-Tuesday, while constructional work of underground bunkers began today in Uri Sub Division.
“On night of 29/ 30 Jun 20, suspicious movement of 6-8 persons was observed in two groups in Parkian Gali Sector, Kupwara (J&K) along the LoC. Own troops challenged the infiltrators with fire. Infiltrators ran away taking help of darkness”, the army tweeted. Pakistan initiated an Unprovoked Ceasefire Violation (CFV) along the LoC in Nowgam Sector by firing Mortars and other weapons, adding a befitting response was given to the opponents by our jawans, the official added.
Meanwhile, sources from Uri Baramulla said that, after a gap of 14 years when a devastating earthquake hit both the sides of Kashmir on 8 October 2005 and destroyed all infrastructures.
Some bunkers were provided in 2002 by the then Cabinet Minister, Mohammad Shafi Uri of the erstwhile state of Jammu and Kashmir, said sources.
According to them, in 2019 people of 40 villages of sub division Uri protest in Uri town under the banner of JKNC Vice President North Kashmir Dr Sajjad Shafi Uri and demand for underground bunkers for residents living at zero line of LoC Uri.
“Long pending demand of the people living on Zero line of LoC Uri was fulfilled today by the Government of Jammu and Kashmir by providing bunkers to affected people living on the Zero line villages in sub division Uri, sources informed ET.
The local inhabitants of Uri area thanked DC Baramulla Dr.GN itoo, SDM Uri Reyaz Ahmad Malik and Dr Sajjad Shafi Uri for their tremendous effort for fulfilling long pending demands of the public in Haji Peer sector.
However, JKNC Vice President North Kashmir Dr Sajjad Shafi Uri in a statement thanked the Governor Administration.
He said that, “40 bunkers is not enough for Sub Division Uri and more for Kamalkote Dardkote, Nawarunda, Gowalta and Boniyar Sector.
Dr Sajad also demanded that 5 marlas state land should be provided for accommodating border area residents in safe colony areas.
