Early Times Report

JAMMU, July 1: United Democratic Alliance (UDA) criticized the Jammu Municipal Corporation for not showing serious concern over the problems being faced by the people of Jammu city.
In a statement issued here today, Rajiv Mahajan spokesperson of United Democratic Alliance (UDA) said that Jammu Municipal Corporation has signed an MoU with with Energy Efficiency Services Limited (EESL) worth Rs 32.50 crore for installation of LED street lights and new high mast lights of all the 75 Municipal wards of Jammu city. The EESL will also maintain the lights for seven years,” he added.
Mahajan said that there are several localities of Jammu city wherein the people have been facing inconvenience due to defunct street lights, making it difficult for people to commute at night. He said that Coporators have giving deaf ears to people’s problems.
“Street lights are a basic necessity and we have always complained about the irregularities in the street lights. After the installation of LED lights, we were hopeful that JMC would work for development. But our hopes got shattered. Most wards of Jammu city have been facing a black out for the last so many months in the absence of street lights. Commuters face a lot of inconvenience,” he added.
Mahajan appealed to the Mayor Chander Mohan to take strict action against the officials concerned and the EESL officials who are not following the guidelines of the MoU signed with JMC by not repairing the street lights within stipulated time.
Mahajan also expressed gratitude to the Mayor Chander Mohan Gupta for coming to the forefront in resolving the issues. He mentioned that he had taken-up the issues of defunct street lights of Ward 8 with Mayor JMC who immediately gave direction to the authorities concerned for resolving the issues.
Mahajan maintained that the street lights of Ward No 8 which were defunct for the last 20 days despite taking up the issue with the corporator of the area and the JMC authorities nothing has been done in this regard. He appreciated the efforts of Mayor Chander Mohan Gupta for resolving people’s issues within no time and making Jammu city Green and Clean.
