Junaid Mattoo to lose Govt accommodation, cooks!
7/1/2020 11:50:28 PM

Early Times Report

Jammu, July 1: The Jammu and Kashmir government is looking ahead to evict former Mayor of Srinagar Municipal Corporation from the official accommodation in Srinagar.
Sources in the Civil Secretariat here said the government has decided to serve a formal notice in the coming days to former Mayor Junaid Mattoo that he should leave his official residence near Gupkar. It is pertinent to mention that Junaid after becoming the Mayor was given the government accommodation that was previously occupied by ministers.
Sources said apart from orderlies given by other departments, two cooks had allegedly been deputed at his residence.
Sources said the Raj Bhawan has taken a serious note of the resources like cooks deputed at the residence of the former Mayor.
“Why were two cooks needed that too from the government resources? This is really bad on the part of those who had allowed it,” said a senior official in the Civil Secretariat on the condition of anonymity.
Sources said the accommodation would be spared for the next mayor of SMC.
Sources said the BJP leaders have asked the government to look into the matter as to how come can a corporator enjoy such an accommodation when he is no more in power as mayor.
It is pertinent to mention that Mattoo was ousted from the SMC on June 16 when a no-confidence motion was passed against him by the corporators.
The BJP leaders have been accusing Matto of corruption and have also appealed the government to order an inquiry into allegations of corruption.
“When he is not a mayor, he is only a corporator, so if one corporator like him gets such accommodation the same should be provided to all other seventy corporators, or he should be evicted at an earliest,” said a BJP leader.
Despite repeated attempts, the former Mayor was not available for comments.
A senior official, however, told Early Times that the proposal to evict Mattoo was under consideration.
