4 die while cleaning well in Kupwara

KUPWARA, July 2: A pall of gloom descended over the two families today, after four local residents of Kralpora area of north Kashmir died due to suffocation as they had gone inside the well for its cleaning.
According to sources, four local residents of Sindhan Warsun of Kralpora area were cleaning the well in this border area that got collapsed after which the locals tried to rescue them at the earliest, but they failed in doing so. There is a possibility that all the local youth died due to asphyxiation, as the deceased Altaf Ahmad Shiekh was the first person that went into the well for its cleaning, after which other three persons went to trace the previous one, said sources. Mohammad Ashraf of Kralpora area told early times that, the four persons were working on an under-construction well at Singhdan Warsun area of Kralpora, and in no time it collapsed and the four persons fell inside the well, after which the police and local army unit was informed for their help.
After hectic efforts by the rescue teams including police, army and locals, all the four persons were retrieved from the well and they were moved to the nearby Kralpora hospital where doctors declared them as brought dead on arrival, local informed.
All the four persons were declared as brought dead by the doctors, the deceased were identified as Altaf Ahmad Shiekh (35) son of Ghulam Mohi ud-din Shiekh, Showkat Ahmad Khan (27) son of Ghulam Hassan Khan, Mumtaz Ahmad Khan (25) and his brother Altaf Ahmad Khan (26) sons of Ghulam Mohi ud-din Khan, all residents of Dard Hari Sangdan Kralpora.
