Early Times Report

RAMBAN, July 3: The Pollution Control Board (PCB) Ramban today launched an anti-polythene drive in main market Chanderkote of the district and claimed to have confiscated banned polythene bags from the shopkeepers.
The anti polythene drive was conducted on the directions of Member Secretary J&K Pollution Control Board, B M Sharma.
Divisional Officer, PCB, Ramban, Anupam Kaul along with his team conducted anti polythene drive and seized around 4.8 kg of banned polythene carry bags less than 50 microns and 3.1 kg of Single Use Plastic from the shopkeepers.
He also realised a fine of Rs 2000/- from erring traders for not compliance with the directions issued by the government.
District Officer PCB said that the drive was launched keeping in view the rise in pollution due to polythene bags and drive would continue to continue across the district. “Our teams also launched an awareness drive to educate people, especially shopkeepers on hazards of polythene” he added.
The District Officer directed the shopkeepers to refrain from using or selling polythene bags. Pertinently, the Jammu and Kashmir government banned the manufacturing, stocking, sale and use of polythene bags across J&K under SRO-45 of 2017 and Single Use Plastic under SRO-231 of 2019 in Ramban district.
