School land under threat of illegal occupation, admin mute spectator
7/3/2020 11:29:34 PM
Early Times Report

POONCH, July 3: Slowly but steadily the land belonging to the Government Girls High School Harni, Zone Harni in tehsil Mendhar of district Poonch is getting shrunk, thanks to its illegal occupation by some miscreants of the area.
Locals alleged that the total area of the school which was built on Khasra No 182 was 25 kanals and 9 marlas but at present only about 17 kanals of the land has been left due to regular encroachments as there is no boundary wall to save the school land from illegal occupation.
They said that the local administration has not taken any significant steps due to which the land is getting grabbed by the mischievous elements as they are taking it over without any fear of law. Speaking to Early Times, a resident Babu Ghulam Hussain said that the land of Government Girls High School should be demarcated so as to save it from encroachers.
He said that the locals made repeated requests with the tehsil as well as district administrations several times to construct a boundary wall around the property of the school but to no avail.
“The school land should immediately be separated and legal action should be taken against those who have illegally occupied the government land and the entire area of the school should be fenced,” demanded Babu Ghulam Hussain and others inculding Nazim Khan, Tazeem Khan, Muhammad Sadiq Chaudhary.
Besides, people living around the school have also appealed to the Lieutenant Governor’s administration and especially the Deputy Commissioner Poonch to form an authorized team to visit the school to access the ground situation.
When contacted Sub Divisional Magistrate (SDM) Mendhar, Dr Sahil Jandyal said that there is a case pending in the court of Deputy Commissioner Poonch between two parties and Commission will demarcate the land as per the direction of the court as and when it pronounces the same.
