Omar under fire for opposing domicile to West Pak refugees, Valmikis
“If a UK born person could be CM of J&K why not a Jammu born Valmiki youth get a domicile certificate?’, people ask on social media platforms.

EARLY TIMES REPORT

Jammu, July 3: Decision of former chief minister and National Conference stalwart Omar Abdullah to oppose granting of domicile certificates to Valmikis and refugees from West Pakistan has evoked strong reaction from various sections of the society.
Social media is flooded with various questions to target Omar Abdullah. People are asking if a U-K born person could be Chief Minister of J&K, why not a Valmiki youth whose family has been serving people of J&K since 1957 has the right to get a domicile certificate.
“All our misgivings about the new domicile rules in J&K are coming to the fore.
We in @JKNC_ opposed the changes because we could see the nefarious design behind the changes. The people of J&K on both sides of the Pir Panjal mountains will be the sufferers of these domicile rules,” Omar had tweeted last week when a domicile certificate was issued to senior IAS office Navin K Choudhary.
Choudhary, an IAS officer of J&K cadre from the 1994 batch, is originally from Bihar but he has been serving in J&K since long and under the new domicile law he is eligible to get a domicile certificate.
Kashmir centric parties especially NC and PDP and some leaders of Congress are furious over issuing domicile certificates to refugees from West Pakistan and Valmikis.
It was all due to opposition of these parties that such sections of the society could not get citizenship rights.
