VC SKUAST-J inaugurates animal health camp

Jammu, July 4: A farmer awareness-cum-animal health camp was organized by SKUAST-Jammu at border village Abdullian under the Department of Science and Technology, New Delhi funded project entitled “Enhancement of Livelihood security among Livestock rearers through Technological Interventions". Vice Chancellor, SKUAST-Jammu Dr. J. P. Sharma inaugurated the Animal Health Camp as the chief guest.
Interacting with the farmers of area, Dr J. P. Sharma highlighted the relevance of scientific management practices for rearing dairy animals.
He conveyed that the camp is organized to disseminate the latest technologies related to livestock rearing and health management at farmers door-steps and to have an in-depth interaction with the farmers to know their problems and provide on-spot solutions. He stressed the importance of nutritional supplements like urea molasses multi-nutrient blocks (UMMB) prepared from locally available agro-industrial by-products improve nutritional status of animals and their health and production.
More than 40 dairy farmers participated in the camp. Various dairy animals were treated in the camp by the experts from Faculty of Veterinary Sciences & A.H., SKUAST-Jammu. Farmers were demonstrated the benefits of ultrasonography in pregnancy diagnosis and reproductive health of dairy animals. They were made aware of the benefits of supplementing mineral mixture, regular deworming and vaccination. Medicines, dewormers, UMMB and area specific mineral mixture were distributed among livestock farmers. Dr. Ravleen Kour, Principal Investigator of the project presented various activities being carried out under the project of betterment of livestock farmers.
Dean of the faculty of Veterinary Sciences and Animal Husbandry, Dr. M. S. Bhadwal, Dr. Narinder Singh, Dr. Rajiv Singh, Dr. Rajesh Agrawal, Dr. Puneet Choudhary, Dr. A. K. Panday, Dr Nazam Khan from the SKUAST-Jammu and Dr. V.R. Moton, Livestock Development Officer, Dr. Manmeet Singh, VAS, Department of Animal Husbandry, Smt. Neelam Devi, Sarpanch (Abdullianh), Bachan Lal, Ex-Sarpanch and Shri Swaran Lal, Ex-Sarpanch (Suchetgarh) attended the programme.
