VC SKUAST visits Advanced Centre of Horticulture Research, Udheywala

JAMMU, July 5: Professor J.P. Sharma, Vice Chancellor, SKUAST-Jammu visited Advanced Centre of Horticulture Research at Udheywala and took stock of progress of work being undertaken at centre of excellence (fruits), plant tissue culture laboratory and biocontrol laboratory. He was accompanied by Director of Research Dr R K Gupta, Dean, Faculty of Agriculture Dr D P Abrol, Director Planning Dr Deepak Kher, Comptroller Rajesh Talwar besides staff of Division of Fruit Science and ACHR, Udheywalla following all SOP’s and guidelines issued for COVID-19 pendamic.
During the visit Professor Sharma advised the scientists to work in coordination and hoped that the centre will develop into a state of art facility for the people of J&K. He suggested to have extensive consultancy and support from the best institutions throughout the country and hoped that the Jain Irrigations who are developers of the project would be able to complete the project in time and assured that university will make all efforts to facilitate them in completing the project.
He laid stress on plantation of best varieties of fruit crops so that best quality planting material may be multiplied and provided to farmers and other stakeholders.
Vice chancellor also visited the mother blocks of different fruit crops being planted and directed to complete the planting during this season only.
Dr Jag Paul Sharma, Associate Director Research and coordinator, briefed the VC about the mandates of the centre. He informed that the centre would be providing trainings and quality planting material to the farmers of Jammu province.
Besides visit, Vice-Chancellor SKUAST- Jammu inaugurated a “Shramdaan Program” (a voluntary contribution of physical effort) by planting a sapling in presence of Dr.S K. Gupta, Director Extension, Dr MMS Zama, Ex-Dean along with all resident scientists in the residential area of Chatha campus of SKUAST Jammu.
