Husband shoots 5 months pregnant wife over dowry

JAMMU, July 6: In a case of harassment and demand of dowry, a 25 year old woman with 5 months pregnancy was shot by her husband in Dool area of district Kishtwar.
As per the details available with Early Times, the accused Arif Hussain Butt, son of Akthar Hussain Butt, resident of Dool Kishtwar got married to victim Rubina Banoo a year ago and after marriage the young women was allegedly harassed continuously by her in laws and husband over dowry.
The husband shot his wife today with .12 Bore rifle and escaped from the spot while the lady is battling for her life at District Hospital Kishtwar where she was shifted by the police and family members soon after she was shot around her chest and neck.
Speaking to Early Times in unbearable pain, the injured woman narrated the horrific tale of torture by her in laws as well as by her husband, adding that he bought the illegal weapon for Rs 25000 out of Rs 30000 which he withdraw from her account forcefully. She said that her husband was working in Ladakh, but returned back to home few months ago.
She said that her father in law also possesses the licenced weapon while the weapon with which her husband fired at her was not a licenced weapon.
“The in laws entered into a quarrel with me. I saved my self by bolting the door from inside the room. Meanwhile my mother arrived at our residence and I came out of the room to meet her. In the meantime my husband also arrived while I was preparing to serve lunch to him, his mother and other family members provoked him and in a fit of anger he shot me,” said the victim lady.
She said that her husband and others always pressurize her for dowry and demanded immediate action against her husband and in laws.
SHO Police Station Kishtwar, Ajaiz Ahmed Wani rushed to the spot and also registered the statement of the victim.
Police have registered a case under section 307 IPC and Arms Act and arrested the husband of the victim.
Later, the profusely injured woman was shifted to Jammu as her condition was stated to be critical.
