End of digital age?

Early Times Report

Jammu, July 6: Eleven months and counting, the otherwise peaceful region called Jammu has no high speed internet and there is no word from the helmsmen about when the service will be restored.
For the peace loving people of Jammu, this is the longest ever internet gag witnessed in region’s history. The 4G internet ban is about to complete one year in Jammu region.
According to the officials, the government is “indecisive” about whether to restore the services or not. There are even speculations that the ban may remain in vogue even beyond August 5, 2020. It was on August 5 last year when the ban was imposed after Centre announced its decision to scrap J&K’s special status and bifurcated it into two union territories. The Government had restored the 2G internet services in Jammu region on January 25, 2020.
Jammu has been reeling under unprecedented internet blackout despite situation being peaceful since abrogation of the Article 370.
Meanwhile, on social media too people are expressing their resentment over the blockade of high speed mobile internet service in Jammu. Questions are being raised over government not restoring the 4G mobile internet service in Jammu.
Politicians who claim to be representing Jammu’s aspirations are tightlipped over the blockade of internet in Jammu where situation has remained completely peaceful even after the abrogation of Article370 and downgrading of the erstwhile State into a union territory.
Furthermore, the Cellular Operators Association of India an amalgam of GSM mobile players, had revealed that the overall telecom industry operating in J&K suffers the loss of Rs 2 crore on daily basis when the calling and data services are suspended.
