NSS Unit & 2 J&K Girls Bn GCW Gandhinagar wind up 4- day activities

JAMMU, July 7: The 4-day activity to commemorate this “Van Mohatsav week (festival of tree plantation)” by the NCC cadets of 2 J&K girls Bn and NSS volunteers of Government College for Women Gandhinagar concluded today.
The Programme which was inaugurated with a ‘Plantation Drive’ continued with the cadets and Volunteers planted saplings in their vicinity and at their respective homes. A total 33 cadets of ‘A’ company and 17 cadets of ‘B’ company along with 20 NSS volunteers participated in this activity and disseminated the message of conserving Mother Nature - “ Plant a Tree , Plant a Hope for Future”.
Poster-Making competition was organised on day 2 wherein the focus of the celebration was towards forming a personal connect between the students and trees through a process of experience, reflection and creation, which was carried out by 25 NSS volunteers and 15 NCC cadets through this activity. On day 3 , keeping in view the restrictions posed by covid 19 , an effort was made to enrich the college flora by planting 25 saplings of medicinal plants and fruit trees with the active participation of the NSS Programme Officer, ANO and C/T of 2 J&K girls Bn. Jammu. The saplings were planted by the Principal of the College, Dr. Sangita Nagari and a successful plantation drive was conducted in the ‘botanical garden’ and in front of principal’s office with the co-ordination of faculty of botany, including HOD Botany Department, Prof. Hardiyal Singh.
The saplings were donated by faculty of botany which included Neem, Behra, Amla, Tulsi, Litchi, Kinoow, Guava etc.
On the fourth day, the deliberations were made by the cadets and volunteers through video clips on the topic” Rejuvenating Forest Flora under the shades of covid19” wherein the participants stressed upon to aid in the process of rejuvenation by mother nature. The programme concluded with the message of the Principal, Dr. Sangita Nagari.
She emphasized that this activity should not end up with the plantation only but a post plantation care must be ensured. She also appreciated the efforts of Prof. Mala Bhasin, NSS Programme Officer; C/T, Prof. Suman Bala and Capt.(Prof.) Shivani Sharma, Associate NCC Officer, 2 J&K girls Bn., GCW Gandhinagar.
