| PCB imposes environmental compensation on MC Ramban | | | Early Times Report
Jammu, July 8: J&K Pollution Control Board (JKPCB) levied environmental compensation on Municipal Committee (MC) Ramban for illegal and unscientific dumping of solid waste material along the national highway.
According to JKPCB spokesperson reports of illegal dumping of solid waste by Municipal Committee Ramban were received with photographic evidence. “The matter was accordingly taken up with concerned Deputy Commissioner, Director Urban Local Body and Executive Officer Municipal Committee Ramban through series of communications, without receiving any response from any stake holder”, the spokesperson said, adding that the reckless handling and unscientific disposal of solid waste along National Highway across the downhill slope along bank of river Chenab at Cafeteria Morh Ramban is going on unabatedly.
“Accordingly, the Executive Officer MC Ramban shall deposit a sum of Rs.12.88 lac, as environmental compensation within 45 days and on lapse of above said period, interest @ 12 percent on the compensation amount shall accrue, at the risk and responsibility of the Executive Officer”, the spokesperson said.
