Newly formed ANTF seizes Charas worth Rs 2.3 crore seized

Jammu, July 9: In its first major success, the recently constituted Anti-Narcotics Task Force (ANTF), a wing of J&K Police today seized huge quantity of Charas worth Rs 2.3 crores from a Nasik bound truck.
On the basis of inputs that a consignment of narcotics is going from Kashmir to Punjab in a truck, the ANTF team led by its Chief SP Vinay Sharma laid a naka checking near ASCOM Hospital at Sidhra.
“A truck bearing registration number PB-13AF-1246 intercepted by the team, during checking, huge consignment of Charas like substance was recovered, which was concealed in a specially fabricated cavity in the truck”, ANTF Chief told the Media persons, during a press conference here on Thursday.
“The truck driver Gurbaksh Singh a resident of Lohara, Ludhiana has been arrested and the truck seized under relevant sections of law. The Charas measured approximately 49 Kgs and looks to be high graded which has an international cost of approx. Rs 2.3 Crores and was to be taken to Nasik (Maharashtra)”, he said, adding that it was one of the largest catches of Charas in recent times in JK UT.
He further said, “The ANTF is investigating further details of forward and backward linkages of this interstate racket and more arrests are expected. Recently, the ANTF had also seized 1400Kgs of popy straw being smuggled”, he added.
The ANTF is a specialised wing recently created to deal with Narcotics and Psychotropic substances and related crimes and works under supervision of Crime headquarters of J&K Police.
