Kishtwar admin mulls ban on over-the- counter sale of poisonous substances

KISHTWAR, July 9: District administration Kishtwar is mulling to ban on the over-the-counter sale of poisonous substances in view of increasing incidents of the consumption of the same in the district.
District Development Commissioner, Rajinder Singh Tara directed the concerned authorities to identify all shops which sell insecticides, pesticides and other poisonous contents and ensure that they maintain a register reflecting stock and sale of poisonous substances.
He was speaking a meeting of officers convened to discuss the measures to keep check on growing poison cases in the District. He also called for imposing a blanket ban on the sale of the insecticide and pesticides and other poisonous substances without prescription from concerned experts.
The DDC expressed concern over the situation and said that the easily availability and open sale of insecticides/pesticides and other poisonous substances is one of the major cause of such incidents .
He underlined the need for a multi dimensional approach to address the issue and called for giving wide publicity to the suicide prevention Helpline numbers and agencies and NGOs providing counseling in this regard on social media platform, print and electronic media and through mobile message alerts.
The Chief Education Officer was asked to designate teachers and students in each educational institution for counselling the students during morning assemblies on regular basis as also facilitate frequent visits of the counsellors to advise the pupils.
The meeting was attended by Additional Deputy Commissioner, Pawan Parihar; Joint Director Planning Mohammad Iqbal; Assistant Commissioner Revenue, Dr. Amir Hussain; Chief Medical Officer, Dr. R S Manhas; Chief Agriculture Officer T.K. Atri; Chief Horticulture Officer Dr M Iqbal Baba besides other concerned.
