Early Times Report

NOWSHERA, July 9: There seems to be no end to the encroachment of forest land in this division and the worst part of the story is that the concerned authorities are not ready to act against the green gold smugglers.
Sources told Early Times that the encroachment of forest land has been going on at regular basis in this forest division. They said that just few days back a person encroached upon a huge chunk of forest land and constructed at least three shops in the forest.
“The encroacher while making full use of the laidback attitude of the people at helm constructed three shops in the middle of the forest. The forest land in question is located hardly six kilometers away from the office of Divisional Forest Officer (DFO) Nowshera and still then no action has been taken so far,” said sources.
Sources said the construction is not a small one since the dimension of the shops is 15 feet by 15 feet and the same is quite visible to the naked eye from a distance.
They said the locals informed the local staff of Department of Forests about the latest encroachment on phone many times, but up to this moment of time action is awaited.
The locals of the area demanded that Lieutenant Governor Girish Chander Murmu should intervene in the matter and take prompt action so that the green gold in the Nowshera division is saved from further destruction.
They alleged that local staff is not willing to take action against encroachers for the reasons best known to them.
DFO Nowshera Suresh Manda could not be contacted since his phone was out of the coverage area. Conservator of Forests D Dass Mohan said that he is busy in a meeting and he would talk about the issue later on.
However, when he was contacted once more he did not bother to pick up the phone.
