Corona Virus cases continue to mount in JK, 357 fresh cases reported, 10 more deaths

SRINAGAR, July 12: The union territory of Jammu & Kashmir continues to witness a surge in the Corona Virus cases as well as deaths associated with the virus. While 10 people lost their lives in the past 24 hours, 357 new cases of COVID-19 came to the fore today.
Reports said that while two deaths each were reported from Srinagar, Kulgam and Ganderbal districts, a death each came to the fore from Baramulla, Budgam, Kupwara and Jammu districts. As on date, 179 people have died due to the Corona Virus in Jammu & Kashmir with Srinagar leading the list with 44 deaths.
Reports said that Srinagar reported 97 fresh cases of COVID-19 followed by Ganderbal 40 cases, Baramulla 31 cases, Budgam and Bandipora 29 cases each, Kupwara 25 cases, Samba 20 cases, Jammu 15 cases, Kulgam and Shopian 13 cases each, Pulwama 11 cases, Kathua eight cases, Anantnag and Ramban seven cases each, Rajouri six cases, Doda four cases and Udhampur & Kishtwar one case each.
The Jammu & Kashmir government through the media bulletin informed that 357 new positive cases of novel Corona Virus (COVID-19), 62 from Jammu division and 295 from Kashmir division, have been reported today thus taking the total number of positive cases in Jammu and Kashmir to 10,513. Also, 10 COVID-19 deaths have been reported; one from Jammu division and nine from Kashmir Division.
Moreover, 84 more COVID-19 patients have recovered and discharged from various hospitals, five from Jammu Division and 79 from Kashmir Division. Out of 10,513 positive cases, 4,355 are active positive, 5,979 have recovered and 179 have died; 17 in Jammu division and 162 in Kashmir division. Out of 4, 52,455 test results available, 4, 41,942 samples have tested negative till date.
Additionally, till date 3, 13,152 travelers and persons in contact with suspected cases have been enlisted for surveillance which included 37,867 persons in home quarantine including facilities operated by government, 31 in hospital quarantine, 4,355 in hospital isolation and 45,354 under home surveillance. Besides, 2, 25,366 persons have completed their surveillance period.
The bulletin said that Srinagar has 1,708 positive cases, 1,145 active positive, 519 recovered, 44 deaths; Baramulla has 1319 positive cases, 742 active positive, 544 recovered, 33 deaths; Kulgam has 1000 positive cases, 321 active positive, 659 recovered, 20 deaths; Shopian has 901 positive cases, 211 active positive, 674 recovered, 16 deaths; Anantnag district has 788 positive cases, 177 active positive, 597 recovered, 14 deaths.
“Kupwara has 771 positive cases, 288 active positive, 473 recovered, 10 deaths; Pulwama has 656 positive cases, 308 active positive, 343 recovered, five deaths; Budgam has 561 positive cases, 228 active positive, 320 recovered, 13 deaths; Bandipora has 365 positive cases, 73 active positive, 289 recovered, three deaths and Ganderbal has 201 positive cases, 109 active positive, 88 recoveries, four deaths,” reads the bulletin.
The bulletin said that Jammu has 488 positive cases, 149 active positive, 329 recovered, 10 deaths; Udhampur has 302 positive cases, 54 active positive, 247 recovered, one death; Kathua has 300 positive cases, 88 active positive, 211 recovered, one death; Rajouri has 275 positive cases, 185 active positive, 89 recovered, one death; Ramban has 261 positive cases, 55 active positive, 206 recovered.
“Samba has 244 positive cases, 106 active positive, 137 recovered, one death; Poonch has 142 positive cases, 20 active positive, 121 recovered, one death; Doda has 128 positive cases, 57 active positive, 69 recovered, two deaths; Reasi has 57 positive cases, 18 active positive, 39 recovered and Kishtwar has 46 positive cases, 21 active positive, 25 recovered,” reads the bulletin. Out of 10,513 positive cases in J&K, 2869 have been reported as travelers.
The bulletin has informed the people that, the best way to protect themselves from COVID-19 is by maintaining physical distance of at least 2 metres from others, frequently cleaning hands with an alcohol based hand sanitizer or washing them with soap and water and following good respiratory etiquette and hygiene. As a measure for social distancing in public places and workplaces wearing a face cover is compulsory.
