‘Zero tolerance’ against ceasefire violations by Pakistan, says Army Chief General Naravane
7/14/2020 12:00:33 AM
Early Times Report

Srinagar, July 13: Army Chief General Manoj Mukund Naravane on Monday visited Jammu to review the operational preparedness of troops deployed along the border and reinstated the fact of ‘Zero tolerance’ against the ceasefire violations by Pakistan and infiltration attempts by terrorists. The Amry Chief was also briefed by senior commanders on the security situation in the Union Territory.
He said all agencies of services and the government are working together relentlessly and will continue to do the same to defeat the nefarious design of proxy war being fueled by our adversaries. General Naravane expressed confidence in the Army’s capabilities to thwart any misadventure by the country’s enemies and handle any situation
General Naravane visit comes amid unprovoked ceasefire violation by Pakistan along the Line of Control (LoC) in Nowshera sector of Rajouri district.
The ceasefire violation took place by firing small arms and shelling with mortars at 19:30 hours on Sunday, said Army officials. The Indian troops also retaliated and the cross-border firing at Nowshera sector of Rajouri, and Kirni and Qasba sectors of Poonch was going on when last reports were received, the officials said.
“At about 1930 hours, Pakistan initiated unprovoked ceasefire violation by firing with small arms and shelling mortars along LoC in Nowshera sector. Indian Army is retaliating befittingly,” a defence spokesperson said.
According to news agency PTI, a police official said Pakistan also targeted forward villages and posts along the LoC in Kirni and Qasba sectors of Poonch. “The firing and shelling from across the border started around 1945 hours and was still going on,” the official said. There was no report of any casualty in any of the three-sector, he added.
‘Terror launch pads across LoC full’
A top army general in Jammu and Kashmir had on Saturday said that terror launch pads across the LoC are full and there could be close to 300 terrorists waiting to infiltrate in the Naugam sector of Baramulla district in Jammu and Kashmir.
“Inputs indicate that their launch pads are fully occupied. If we have to guess, it could be anything between 250-300 terrorists presently occupying the launch pads,” news agency ANI quoted Major General Virendra Vats GOC 19 Infantry Division, Baramulla, as saying.
The troops launched an operation after a suspicious movement was detected in the area.
“Today, our troops along the LoC Naugam sector detected suspicious movement originating from Pakistani post in the area. Apt response was taken to eliminate two terrorists who were trying to infiltrate by cutting an anti-infiltration fence,” General Vats had said.
