Road Safety measures reviewed in Rajouri

RAJOURI, July 17: Deputy Commissioner Rajouri, Mohammad Nazir Sheikh on Friday reviewed the Road Safety measures here at a meeting of District Road Safety Committee.
The meeting was attended by Senior Superintendent of Police, Chandan Kholi; Joint Director Planning, Shama-Un Ahmed; Chief Medical Officer, Dr Sanjeev Puri; Chief Education Officer, Ramsaroop Sharma; Assistant Commissioner Development, Sushil Khajuria; Assistant Regional Transport Officer, Inzar Ahmed Rana; Executive Engineer PWD Nowshera, Prem Kapoor; Executive Engineer PMGSY Budhal, Mehmood Hussain; Executive Engineer PMGSY Rajouri, Subash Sharma; Dysp Traffic; representative from BRO , and Executive officer of all the MCs.
The Deputy Commissioner reviewed Action taken report on District Road Safety Plan including Road Safety Audit.
The Deputy Commissioner said that the objective of Road Safety Audit is to identify potential issues that may pose a risk to road users and to suggest suitable measures to eliminate or reduce the risks.
The concerned Officers from BRO informed that the Road safety audit of the road from Bhambla to BG has been completed as per the directions.
The deputy Commissioner directed the Executive Engineers of PMGSY and PWD to carry out the Road safety audits of the peripheral roads at the earliest.
The Deputy Commissioner also directed that the black spots, as defined by the MoRTH, be identified by the Public Works Department of the State and BRO on priority basis.
The Senior Superintendent of Police said that the police department will provide the data of road accidents that happened during the last five years; this will help in identifying the black spots.
It was also decided in the meeting that PWD/BRO shall carry out marking of roads, erecting reflectors, signage, speed brakes for calming the speed as per the standard at appropriate places.
Further, the meeting decided that the BRO along with revenue officers and police shall carry out a special drive to remove the roadside encroachment including the unauthorized advertising boards; which are obstructing the movement of vehicles.
The traffic Police and MVD department were asked to go for strict enforcement of traffic rules and checking of overcharging.
Regarding the establishment of trauma centers at Sunderbani and Manjakote, the Deputy Commissioner directed the ExN PWD Rajouri/Nowshera to submit DPRs at the earliest.
The Executive Officers of MCs were directed to identify the spots, for installation of street lights in collaboration with the Police department. The Assistant Commissioner Development was asked to provide the list of volunteers to be trained for basic life support training.
The senior superintendent of police asked the Dysp traffic to establish special checkpoints at DKG, BG and Sunderbani and ensure that SOPs are properly being followed.
