Four notorious drug peddlers arrested in Sopore, contraband recovered

BARAMULLA, July 31: Jammu and Kashmir police have arrested four notorious drug peddlers today and recovered contraband substance from their possession in Sopore town of this north Kashmir district.
In a statement, the police spokesperson said that, continuing its drive against drug dealings in Sopore, Police have arrested four notorious drug peddlers and recovered contraband substance from their possession. A senior police official said that, officers at a checkpoint established at Trumbgund crossing intercepted 4 individuals identified as Imtiyaz Ahmad Chopan & Imtiyaz Ahmad Dar both residents of Ringi, Arshad Rashid Wani resident of Izzat Shah Colony Sopore and Faiz Farooq Janwari resident of Noorbagh Sopore. During checking officers were able to recover 38 grams of Brown Sugar from their possession. They have been arrested and shifted to Police Station Tarzoo where they remain in custody, the police official said.
Accordingly, case FIR No. 76/2020 under relevant sections of law has been registered in Police Station Tarzoo and investigation has been initiated. Preliminary investigation reveals that the arrested persons are notorious drug peddlers who were supplying drugs among the youth in the area.
Community members are requested to come forward with any information regarding drug peddlers in their neighborhood. Persons found indulging in drug peddling will be dealt as per law. Police have resolved to deal robustly with drug peddlers, the police statement said.
It further said that, our consistent actions against drug peddlers should reassure the community members that we are making efforts to keep our society free from the scourge of drug menace.
