7/31/2020 11:56:31 PM
Early Times Report

Baramulla, July 31: Traffic on Uri road was resumed after remaining suspended for about four hours due to landslides, triggered by heavy rains in the wee hours of Friday in north Kashmir.
The road, connecting capital of Union Territory (UT) of Jammu and Kashmir with Muzaffarabad, capital of Pakistan Occupied Kashmir (POK), was closed on Friday morning following landslides and shooting stones near Uri, about 100 km from here. However, the authorities immediately put into service sophisticated machines and men and cleared the landslides on the strategically important road. Hundreds of vehicles, which had got stranded were later allowed to move towards their respective destinations.
The road from Salamabad, Uri to Muzaffarabad remained closed since April last year when centre suspended all Cross Line of Control (LoC) trade activities with POK following intelligence reports that it (trade) was being used for terror funding. The cross LoC Karwan-e-Aman bus service to ferry families divided in 1947 due to partition also remained suspended since March last year. The peace bus was introduced in 2008 to allow divided families to travel on travel permits instead of passport.
