Early Times Report

JAMMU, July 31: Citizens' Forum (CF) expressed surprise on certain 'self-styled' BJP leaders outrightly rejecting the growing demand for restoration of statehood status of Jammu and Kashmir.
In a statement issued here today, Citizens' Forum president R K Chadhha said that one such leader of BJP party for his outlandish stand in a news channel debate and while in a recent meeting with the Lt Governor rubbished thedemand for restoration of statehood when senior leaders of his own party including Home Minister, Amit Shah and BJP general secretary Ram Madhav have repeatedly talked about reverting to the status to remove injustice done to the state turned Union Territory.
The Forum President, Chadhha expressed dismay on the outburst of Ashwini Charangoo calling demand for restoration of statehood as "absurd opinions of some vested interests" and that it should be outrightly rejected.
Chadhha said that he should clarify whether his move has the sanction of the Kashmiri Pandit community who have been fighting for their rights since displacement in the 1990s or whether he raised this demand with the concurrence of the BJP leadership. It seems that he has acted on his own with a malafide intention to create confusion in Jammu region which has already been faced with numerous problems. Chadha called Charangoo's contention that there is no difference between statehood and UT status as his total ignorance about the Constitutional provisions in this connection. He also appealed to the Kashmiri Pandit community to seek an explanation from Charangoo in this regard so that he does not act as a self-styled custodian of the rights of the Kashmiri Pandits.
