COVID-19: 13, including KAS officer, die in JK; positive cases cross 20,000 mark

SRINAGAR, July 31: Thirteen more persons including a Kashmir Administrative Service (KAS) officer died due to the Corona Virus in the union territory of Jammu & Kashmir in the past 24 hours. In the meantime 490 new cases of virus were reported today.
Reports said that KAS officer Tasaduq Jeelani was among 13 people who died due to COVID-19 in the past 24 hours. Jeelani had been admitted to SKIMS-Bemina on July 14 and was on ventilator for some days. The death came today in the evening at about 6 PM when repeated attempts to revive him failed.
Following the fresh deaths the total number of COVID-19 casualties in Jammu & Kashmir is 378. Srinagar reported eight fresh deaths followed by Jammu two deaths and Budgam, Pulwama and Bandipora one death each. In Kashmir 350 Corona Virus deaths have occurred while in Jammu 28 people have died due to the virus.
Srinagar reported 128 fresh cases of COVID-19 followed by Pulwama 85 cases, Jammu 43 cases, Budgam 29 cases, Baramulla, Rajouri and Udhampur 24 cases each, Bandipora 22 cases, Anantnag 21 cases, Reasi 20 cases, Samba 18 cases, Kulgam and Kathua 11 cases each, Ganderbal 10 cases, Kupwara nine cases, Shopian eight cases and Ramban, Poonch & Kishtwar one case each.
The Jammu & Kashmir government through the media bulletin informed that 490 new positive cases of novel Corona Virus (COVID-19), 143 from Jammu division and 347 from Kashmir division, have been reported today thus taking the total number of positive cases in Jammu and Kashmir to 20,359. Also 13 COVID-19 deaths have been reported; two from Jammu division and 11 from Kashmir Division.
Moreover, 375 more COVID-19 patients have recovered and discharged from various hospitals, 78 from Jammu Division and 297 from Kashmir Division. Out of 20,359 positive cases, 7,765 are active positive, 12,217 have recovered and 377 have died; 28 in Jammu division and 349 in Kashmir division. Out of 6, 37,515 test results available, 6, 17,156 samples have tested negative till date.
Additionally, till date 3, 68,806 travelers and persons in contact with suspected cases have been enlisted for observation which included 46,478 persons in home quarantine including facilities operated by government, six in hospital quarantine, 7,765 in hospital isolation and 40,732 under home surveillance. Besides, 2, 73,448 persons have completed their surveillance period.
The bulletin said that Srinagar has 4,786 positive cases, 2,710 active positive, 1,955 recovered, 121 deaths; Baramulla has 1,901 positive cases, 514 active positive, 1,319 recovered 68 deaths; Kulgam has 1,504 positive cases, 276 active positive, 1,200 recovered, 28 deaths; Pulwama has 1,480 positive cases, 726 active positive, 734 recovered, 20 deaths; Shopian has 1,430 positive cases, 209 active positive, 1,198 recovered, 23 deaths;
“Anantnag has 1,299 positive cases, 256 active positive, 1,019 recovered; 24 deaths; Budgam has 1,277 positive cases, 533 active positive, 717 recovered, 27 deaths; Kupwara has 1,094 positive cases, 237 active positive, 837 recovered, 20 deaths; Bandipora has 733 positive cases, 256 active positive, 464 recovered, 13 deaths and Ganderbal has 411 positive cases, 134 active positive, 271 recovered, six deaths,” reads the bulletin.
The bulletin said that Jammu has 1,070 positive cases, 477 active positive, 574 recovered, 19 deaths; Rajouri has 670 positive cases, 418 active positive, 250 recovered, two deaths; Ramban has 535 positive cases, 179 active positive, 355 recovered, one death; Kathua has 522 positive cases, 178 active positive, 343 recovered, one death; Udhampur has 460 positive cases, 124 active positive, 335 recovered, one death.
“Samba has 425 positive cases, 172 active positive, 252 recovered, one death; Doda has 269 positive cases, 128 active positive, 139 recovered, two deaths; Poonch has 210 positive cases, 67 active positive, 142 recovered, one death; Reasi has 146 positive cases, 88 active positive, 58 recovered and Kishtwar has 137 positive cases, 82 active positive, 55 recovered,” reads the bulletin. Out of 20,359 positive cases in J&K, 4,337 have been reported as travelers.
The bulletin has informed the people that, the best way to protect themselves from COVID-19 is by maintaining physical distance of at least 2 metres from others, frequently cleaning hands with an alcohol based hand sanitizer or washing them with soap and water and following good respiratory etiquette and hygiene. As a measure for social distancing in public places and workplaces wearing a face cover is compulsory.
