8/2/2020 11:17:45 PM

EARLY TIMES REPORT

JAMMU, Aug 2: As the part of the ongoing Ekatmata Saptah celebrations, Jammu Central University Shakshik Sangh (JCUSS) organized a discussion on the topic “Jammu Kashmir ki Ekatmata aur Media ki Bhumika”. The key note speaker was Professor Govind Singh, Director, School of Journalism and Media Studies, Uttrakhand Open University, Haldwani.
While deliberating on this subject, Professor Singh while reflecting the role of media in last three decades in Jammu & Kashmir highlighted that the narrative build around Kashmir was detrimental in the interest of the nation. He further deliberated upon how systematically some of the groups with vested interest negatively used social media and traditional media for creating a false propaganda which resulted in decade long conflict and mass exodus of a community from Kashmir. He was of the view that with the abrogation of Article 370 & 35A, the positive role of media will emerge which can result in long term peace building measures.
Dr. Richa Kothari, President, JCUSS in her address laid emphasis on the role of social media in building narratives that can build unity among the citizen of Jammu and Kashmir. She also briefed that Ekatmata Saptah is being organized on completion of one year of the abrogation of Article 370 & 35A. She expressed hope that in the coming years, this visionary step shall be helpful in completing the slogan given by Shyma Prasad Mookherjee in 1952 i.e Ek Vidhaan Ek Nishaan.
