COVID-19 death toll in JK reaches 396 as eight more die, 444 fresh cases reported

SRINAGAR, Aug 2: With eight fresh deaths the death toll due to Corona Virus in union territory of Jammu & Kashmir reached 396 even as 444 new cases of virus were reported today. The total number of positive cases in union territory is 21,416.
Srinagar reported four fresh COVID-19 deaths with Baramulla, Pulwama, Kulgam and Bandipora districts reporting a death each. So far 368 Corona Virus deaths have taken place in Kashmir while as number of such deaths in Jammu division is 28. Srinagar tops the list with 130 deaths.
Udhampur reported 69 new cases of COVID-19 followed by Jammu 65 cases, Srinagar and Pulwama 62 cases each, Anantnag 28 cases, Bandipora 24 cases, Shopian 22 cases, Rajouri 18 cases, Poonch 16 cases, Ganderbal and Ramban 13 cases each, Kupwara 10 cases, Samba eight cases, Baramulla and Reasi seven cases each, Budgam six cases, Kathua five cases, Kulgam four cases, Doda three cases and Kishtwar two cases.
The Jammu & Kashmir administration though the media bulletin informed that 444 new positive cases of novel Corona Virus (COVID-19), 206 from Jammu division and 238 from Kashmir division, have been reported today thus taking the total number of positive cases in Jammu and Kashmir to 21,416. Also eight COVID-19 deaths have been reported from Kashmir Division.
Moreover, 256 more COVID-19 patients have recovered and discharged from various hospitals, 123 from Jammu Division and 133 from Kashmir Division. Out of 21,416 positive cases, 7,893 are active positive, 13,127 have recovered and 396 have died; 28 in Jammu division and 368 in Kashmir division. Out of 6, 54,117 test results available, 6, 32,701 samples have tested negative till date.
Additionally, till date 3, 72,929 travelers and persons in contact with suspected cases have been enlisted for observation which included 45,818 persons in home quarantine including facilities operated by government, six in hospital quarantine, 7,893 in hospital isolation and 40,801 under home surveillance. Besides, 2, 78,015 persons have completed their surveillance period.
The bulletin said that Srinagar has 5,153 positive cases, 2,777 active positive, 2,246 recovered, 130 deaths; Baramulla has 1,931 positive cases, 506 active positive, 1,354 recovered, 71 deaths; Pulwama has 1,600 positive cases, 754 active positive, 824 recovered, 22 deaths; Kulgam has 1,512 positive cases, 225 active positive, 1258 recovered, 29 deaths; Shopian has 1,468 positive cases, 207 active positive, 1,238 recovered, 23 deaths.
“Anantnag district has 1,339 positive cases, 277 active positive, 1,038 recovered, 24 deaths; Budgam has 1,297 positive cases, 552 active positive, 717 recovered, 28 deaths; Kupwara has 1,108 positive cases, 151 active positive, 936 recovered, 21 deaths; Bandipora has 779 positive cases, 243 active positive, 522 recovered, 14 deaths and Ganderbal has 434 positive cases, 156 active positive, 272 recovered, six deaths,” reads the bulletin.
The bulletin said that Jammu has 1,187 positive cases, 545 active positive, 623 recovered, 19 deaths; Rajouri has 709 positive cases, 426 active positive, 281 recovered, two deaths; Ramban has 550 positive cases, 162 active positive, 387 recovered, one death; Udhampur has 541 positive cases, 188 active positive, 352 recovered, one death; Kathua has 535 positive cases, 174 active positive, 360 recovered, one death.
“Samba has 438 positive cases, 173 active positive, 264 recovered, one death; Doda has 291 positive cases, 116 active positive, 173 recovered, two deaths; Poonch has 234 positive cases, 90 active positive, 143 recovered, one death; Reasi has 163 positive cases, 104 active positive, 59 recovered and Kishtwar has 147 positive cases, 67 active positive, 80 recovered,” reads the bulletin. Out of 21,416 positive cases in J&K, 4,485 have been reported as travelers.
The bulletin has informed the people that, the best way to protect themselves from COVID-19 is by maintaining physical distance of at least 2 metres from others, frequently cleaning hands with an alcohol based hand sanitizer or washing them with soap and water and following good respiratory etiquette and hygiene. As a measure for social distancing in public places and workplaces wearing a face cover is compulsory.
