Discrimination continues!

Early Times Report

Srinagar, Aug 2: In yet another glaring example of alleged discrimination with Jammu, the J&K Government has sanctioned Rs 10 crore special Covid19 funds to Kashmir whereas the winter capital region has been given half the amount.
Official documents reveal that on July 23, the State Executive Committee (SEC) which met in Srinagar sanctioned Rs. 15 crore under SDRF to major health institutions for further procuring essential labs and equipment for handling Covid19 pandemic.
While the two leading healthcare institutions in Kashmir were given Rs five crore each totaling to Rs 10 crores, Jammu was given only Rs 5 crores.
As per the official handout, SKIMS, Soura Srinagar and the Government Medical College Srinagar were sanctioned Rs 10 crore whereas the Government Medical College in Jammu has been sanctioned Rs.5 Crore. The funds shall be placed with Divisional Commissioners of Jammu as well as Kashmir for this purpose. Officials said by virtue of the orders, Kashmir has more funds to fight Covid19. “Jammu has been given half the amount and this is sheer discrimination,” said a senior official on the condition of anonymity. As per the guidelines of the Ministry of Home Affairs, the SDRF funds for COVID containment efforts in Government Hospitals can be utilized for setting up additional testing laboratories; procurement of personal protection equipment for health workers and other related consumables for government hospitals. “It is pertinent to mention that this funding under SDRF is over and above the funding that is being provided to Health Department during the course of the year,” an official documents said. As already reported by the Early Times, Jammu is facing shortage of resources to fight Covid.
Whereas in Kashmir two hospitals are dedicated for the task with special funding from the government, in Jammu only one institution is mainly looking into the matter and that too with less resources as compared to the valley.
When contacted a senior official confirmed about the figures of Kashmir getting more funds.
He however refuted allegations of discrimination with Jammu.
