Has PDP patron left party?
‘Mehbooba’s PSA detention extended, Muzaffar Beigh silent’

Early Times Report

Jammu, Aug 3: At a time when the PSA detention of Peoples Democratic Party president, Mehbooba Mufti, has been extended by 3-more months, serious questions are being raised over PDP patron Muzaffar Hussain Beigh’s absence from the scene.
Questions like why Beigh hasn’t uttered a single word on the extension of the PSA against Mehbooba and whether he still is a PDP man are being asked.
According to PDP leaders Beigh has completely distanced himself from all the affairs of the PDP and was last seen in January when he issued some customary statement. “He is amongst the only leaders in the PDP who is free at present. He was never detained by the government even post August 5, 2019. He should have taken a lead in keeping the party together. However, on the contrary he drifted away from the party. God knows what he has in mind?,” said a PDP functionary.
Meanwhile, when Mehbooba’s PSA detention was extended for three more months, there were some PDP leaders who were expecting Beigh- the party patron- to speak on the issue. However, the former deputy chief minister of the erstwhile J&K state remained silent.
Some PDP leaders are of the opinion that Beigh has “left the party.”
It may be recalled that Beigh in December 2018 had said that he was sidelined even when PDP and BJP stitched a common ground after the 2014 polls threw a fragmented mandate in J&K.
After around three months of deliberations, PDP formed an alliance with the BJP and signed an agenda of alliance that both the parties termed as a ‘guiding principle’ of running a coalition government in J&K.
“I was completely sidelined. On December 28, 2014, Mufti Sayeed in the presence of Mehbooba had told me to get a document prepared for my preliminary negotiations with BJP. On January 1st, 2015,I was told by Mehbooba that I should stay back and some other person had been chosen to speak to BJP. I don’t know why they did so, but yes, I was sidelined, therefore I don’t have any knowledge about the terms and conditions of the engagement with BJP,” Beigh was quoted as having said in an interview.
