Amid COVID-19 pandemic doctors skip duties in Anantnag

Anantnag, Aug 3: At a time when providing healthcare services to the people in their respective areas has been given priority, doctors posted at Primary Health Center in Adlash Magam village were found absent from their duties today.
Local residents told Early Times that few patients from the village visited the health center at around 11:00 am in the morning today but surprisingly not a single doctor was present in the hospital.
“My sister was ill. I came here to get my sister treated but I was shocked to see that not a single doctor was present here,” Abdul Majeed, a local resident said. He said that once the patients, who had assembled in the hospital premises, raised the issue with the officials of the Health Department and district administration a doctor was deputed to treat the patients.
“He (Doctor) isn’t posted here but Block Medical Officer Sallar deputed him here after he took the issue with Deputy Commissioner Anantnag,” Majeed said. Residents said that at least five doctors were posted at Primary Health Center Adlash Magam, however most of them skip duties.
“Only two doctors among five doctors posted here attend duties, rest of them are taking things casually and often skip duties,” alleged residents. They said that on one side the administration has imposed lockdown restrictions and is asking people to stay at home but on the other side people living in rural areas of Anantnag are being deprived of healthcare facilities.
Dr Mohammad Amin, who started treating patients from midday, told Early Times that he was directed to attend the patients at PHC Adlash. “I am posted somewhere else but I was directed to report at PHC Adlash and treat patients whom I did,” he said. He said that most of the doctors, posted at PHC Adlash, were doing COVID related duties.
