BJP in power: Jammu goes leaderless, important issues go missing
8/4/2020 5:42:16 AM

Early Times Report

Jammu, Aug 3: Many experts and Jammu watchers are of the opinion that Bharatiya Janata Party sharing power with the Peoples Democratic Party from 2015 to June 2018 led to Jammu becoming leaderless as the party ostensibly failed to resolve the issues which touched the skin of a common man in Jammu region.
A Professor at University of Jammu while talking to Early Times said that when BJP was in opposition it used to raise the issues which were important for the people of Jammu. “Though, the sufferings of Jammu didn’t lessen but the issues remained alive. Soon after BJP joined hands with PDP, many leaders of the saffron party became the members of Mehbooba’s camp and projected themselves as her loyal soldiers,” he added.
The Professor said that BJP “could not deliver” during its rule in J&K. “The promises which the party had made as an opposition party remained confined to papers only,” he added.
“Abrogation of Article 370 and 35-A, and consequent bifurcation of erstwhile J&K State into two union territories, J&K and Ladakh has left Jammu leaderless. Main opposition party Congress has failed to take a lead for Jammu’s cause”, said a PHD Scholar of Central University of Jammu, adding that there is wide gap between the leadership at Centre and people of Jammu.
The scholar said. “Local parties in Jammu have tried to garner public sympathy, but due to lockdown and restrictions imposed in wake of the COVID-19, these parties have not succeeded in channelizing the public anger,” he added.
“After 5 August last year, it was perceived that all issues confronting Jammuites will end, but it has proved to be a mere illusion. The BJP leaders have failed to bridge the gap between Jammu and the Centre”, said a senior bureaucrat, adding that recently the issue of road taxes on vehicles stirred the hornet’s nest. “Jammu BJP leaders couldn’t do much. “Jammutes seem disillusioned due to lackadaisical attitude of local BJP leaders. We cannot blame PM Modi and Home Minister Amit Shah as they have delivered what they had promised”, the bureaucrat said, adding that BJP leaders in Jammu under leadership of PM Modi had an opportunity but they failed to avail it.
