One year after scraping Art 370: OBCs feel 'backstabbed' by J&K BJP leaders
8/5/2020 1:25:46 AM

Early Times Report

Jammu, Aug 4: One year after abrogation of Article 370, the Other Backward Classes (OBCs) - who were elated on August 5, 2019, have reasons to feel ‘cheated’ as after passing of one year nothing concrete has been done to end their woes.
There is a feeling among OBCs that they were used by the government while defending abrogation of Article 370 but in reality J&K BJP leaders be-fooled them with one way or another.
All hopes of the OBCs have been dashed with decision of the UT administration to rationalize recruitment policy six months back
“Since August 5, we were hoping that administration will remove injustice with the OBCs but once again the government has betrayed us by not implementing Mandal Commission report in J&K”, a OBC leader said and recalled it was promised that after abrogation of Article 370, OBCs of J&K would get 27 percent reservation like other parts of the country but BJP leadership, due to their anti-weaker section mindset, has again backstabbed OBCs.
He recalled that Union Home Minister, Amit Shah, while giving reply in the Rajya Sabha on August 5, 2019 had made it a point to mention that 52 percent OBCs population of J&K will be the biggest beneficiaries of the decision of government to abolish Article 370”. He, however, regretted that only 4 percent reservation has been given to OBCs in newly rationalized recruitment policy despite the fact that OBCs in other parts of the country were getting 27 percent quota.
Majority of the OBCs leaders have no faith in the Backward Classes Commission constituted by the government because these leaders observed that the panel has shown a casual approach in restoring constitutional rights to OBCs.
