| Restrictions eased, business other activities remain crippled in Kashmir | | |  Early Times REport
Srinagar, Aug 6: Restrictions were eased on Thursday after remaining imposed strictly for two days in the Kashmir valley, where Bhartiya Janata Party (BJP) celebrated first anniversary of abrogation of Article 370 and 35 A on Wednesday while opposition described it a black day and unconstitutional.
Though road blocks and other nakas are still there on some routes, but private vehicles, including two wheelers besides good number three wheelers could be seen plying.
A report received said that roads leading to different tourist destinations, including world famous ski resort of Gulmarg, were closed to prevent people visiting these places. During the Eid-ul-Adha large number of locals visited tourist places against the restrictions.
The District Magistrate (DM), Srinagar on Monday issued an order which reads that Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP), Srinagar, has reported that in a serious of inputs have been received suggesting that separatist and Pakistan sponsored groups are planning to observe August 5 as Black Day. There are apprehension of violation action or protests are not ruled out. There are specific inputs about violent protests endangering public life and property. Therefore, curfew will remain imposed in the entire district on August 4 and 5.
However, on August 4 the DM issued that in view of the situation remaining incident-free on Tuesday he has ordered lifting of restrictions including curfew ordered late Monday night for 48 hours in the district.
The order, however, said that the restrictions ordered earlier under Section 144 of CrPC and the Disaster Management Act in view of the prevailing situation due to COVID-19 disease will remain enforced across the district as directed through an order issued on July 31.
It added that there shall be restrictions on public movement including transport and that commercial and other establishments. Lockdown shall continue in containment zones as already notified, it said. The DM in his order said that avoiding public gatherings are an important part of the efforts to contain spread of COVID-19 and urged the general public to ensure strict compliance with all preventive guidelines and protocols the government has issued in regard to it.
Shops and business establishments remained closed and transport was off the roads in the valley, including summer capital Srinagar in view of the lock down to prevent further spread of Coronavirus.
Similar situation was witnessed in the down town and Shekar-e-Khas (SeK), where one side of the Nallahmar road was open and private vehicles could be seen plying today after two days of strict restrictions. Security forces also remained deployed to meet any situation at short notice. Shops and business establishments remained closed.
In the civil lines, Srinagar, including historic Lal Chowk, the nerve centre of summer capital, shops and business establishments remained closed and transport was off the roads. However, private vehicles were plying in good numbers as compared to August 4 and 5.
In the uptown and outskirts some shops, selling vegetable, milk and other essentials, could be seen open. Transport service remained suspended. However, large number of private vehicles and two wheelers could be seen plying. Security forces had closed one road at Rambagh and people were being asked to take another road.
Reports of restriction and lock were received from other major towns and tehsil headquarters in the Kashmir valley. |
