‘Directionless’ Cong divided over supporting demand of restoring Article 370, 35-A

Early Times Report

Jammu, Aug 8: Jammu, August 8: Directionless Congress is divided over supporting the demand of restoration of Article 370 and 35-A which were abrogated on August 5, 2019.
While some Valley based leaders are demanding restoration of these articles, they are not getting support from Jammu and Ladakh regions where party leaders are hesitating to support this demand.
Credible sources in the Congress said that the party was completely divided on this issue because leadership was very much aware that demanding restoration of these two articles would be proved counterproductive in the rest of the country where people, irrespective of party affiliations, have welcomed abrogation of these two articles.
Credible sources said that recently a meeting of J&K based Congress leaders were held to discuss this issue but they failed to arrive at a consensus. “Even party high-command is confused over support the demand of restoring these two articles”, sources said and revealed that Congress high-command has left this decision on the J&K unit.
Importantly during its convention at Jammu in the month of January this year, Congress had skipped the demand of restoring Article 370 and 35-A because party leadership appeared to hawve reconciled with the fact that Article 370 was not going to be restored in the J&K. The two-day meeting was especially called to discuss the situation that emerged after the August 5, 2019 decision. The meeting was attended by leader of opposition in the Rajya Sabha Ghulam Nabi Azad and Ambika Soni.
A resolution was passed in the presence of Azad and AICC general secretary, Ambika Soni in the meeting held on January 16 and 17, which was attended by leaders from all 20 districts of J&K but there was no mention of Article 370.
