EARLY TIMES REPORT

UDHAMPUR, Aug 9: The ENT Out Patients’ Department (OPD) is non-functional at District Hospital (DH) Udhampur for the last two months leaving hundreds of patients to go through agonizing moments due to the ailments they are suffering with.
“On one side we are worried due to the Corona Virus and on the other side the hospital has no OPD facility,” Bishan, 70, who came all the way from Basantgarh to get treated his ear ailment told Early Times.
There were many more patients with similar complaints and all of them have lot of resentment against the hospital authorities.
Sources in the hospital informed that two months back Health and Medical Education Department promoted Dr SS Parihar, Consultant ENT Specialist at Udhampur District Hospital after which he was transferred to Government Hospital Gandhi Nagar, Jammu, adding that the ENT Specialist Dr Rakesh Kumar posted at Trauma Hospital Mahanpur was transferred to Udhampur Hospital as a replacement but he did not join the duty here as he got his transfer order modified.
Insiders informed that there is a Medical Officer (MO) Dr Neha at District Hospital Udhampur who is also an ENT Specialist (MS ENT) but those at the helm of affairs are reluctant to allow her to take up OPD services and surgery though there are other MOs in the hospital who are giving OPD services and surgery like Dr Suchi Gupta, Dr Zaheer and Dr Sonika.
The affected people have appealed to the LG Manoj Sinha and Atal Duloo, Financial Commissioner Health and Medical Education to intervene and allow Dr Neha for OPD services and surgery until new ENT consultant is posted in Udhampur District Hospital so that people who are coming to hospital for ENT related treatment do not face problems.
