Rein in your leaders
8/9/2020 11:27:15 PM
The Congress Party in Jammu and Kashmir seems to have become a rudderless ship. The Kashmir centric leaders of the Congress party are issuing statements which are against the official line of the party.
The Congress leaders in New Delhi have accepted the change in status-quo of Jammu and Kashmir and apparently it looks that they don’t want to go against the mood of the nation and further erode the credibility of their party. But the Congress leaders in Kashmir are toeing an entirely different line.
They are seeking restoration of J&K’s special status and are toeing the line of the separatists.
The Congress party which shared power in Jammu and Kashmir from 2002 to 2008 first with the Peoples Democratic Party and then with National Conference from 2009 to 2014 stands at crossroads today, the so-called tall leaders of the party have gone into oblivion and have lost their addresses. Despite facing so much of backlash in Jammu region, which was considered to be the bastion of the Congress party, the Kashmir centric leaders of the grand old party of India, are busy going against the tide.
The Congress high command seems to be in a slumber and is not taking any note of the utterances of the leaders based in Kashmir. These leaders sitting in the Valley are not only denting the image of the Congress party in Jammu but also across the country.
The party which ruled the country for so many years is at the brink in every state and the union territory. The Congress leaders need to sit back and think.
They need to ponder upon why they have lost their credibility. Why don’t people trust them anymore? The Congress leadership needs to think why it failed to take the bold decisions when it was in power.
The party it appears had never even dreamt about it becoming so unpopular and losing its support base.
Had the Congress Party taken right decisions at the right time, today its leaders would not have been struggling to keep themselves relevant. At present there is no such leader who can claim that he is leader of the masses.
If the Congress high command fails to rein in its Kashmir centric leaders it will end up losing the little credibility it’s left with.
