SRINAGAR, Aug 9: As 507 new cases of Corona Virus were reported from the union territory of Jammu & Kashmir today the total number of positive cases in the union territory has reached 24,897. With 13 more deaths the death toll due to virus reached 472.
Srinagar reported 155 fresh cases of COVID-19 followed by Bandipora 50 cases, Baramulla 44 cases, Jammu 42 cases, Anantnag and Samba 32 cases each, Kupwara 26 cases, Pulwama 22 cases, Ganderbal 18 cases, Kulgam 15 cases, Ramban 13 cases, Reasi 12 cases, Budgam and Poonch 10 cases each, Doda nine cases, Shopian six cases, Kathua five cases, Udhampur four cases and Rajouri two cases.
Srinagar and Baramulla reported three deaths each followed by a death each in Jammu, Pulwama, Kulgam, Anantnag, Kupwara, Bandipora and Budgam districts. At Koinbal-Pampore Dr. Mohammad Ashraf Mir died due to Corona Virus while battling for his life at SKIMS-Soura for weeks together. The doctor had developed severe lung infection and experienced breathlessness. Although, he was put on ventilator the inevitable could not be avoided.
The Jammu & Kashmir administration through the media bulletin informed that 507 new positive cases of novel Corona Virus (COVID-19), 129 from Jammu division and 378 from Kashmir division, have been reported today thus taking the total number of positive cases in Jammu and Kashmir to 24,897. Also 13 COVID-19 deaths have been reported; one from Jammu division and 12 from Kashmir Division.
Moreover, 336 more COVID-19 patients have recovered and discharged from various hospitals, 74 from Jammu Division and 262 from Kashmir Division. Out of 24,897 positive cases, 7,422 are active positive, 17,003 have recovered and 472 have died; 35 in Jammu division and 437 in Kashmir division. Out of 7, 17,110 test results available, 6, 92,213 samples have tested negative till date.
Additionally, till date 3, 91,304 travelers and persons in contact with suspected cases have been enlisted for observation which included 41,318 persons in home quarantine including facilities operated by government, 7,422 in isolation and 48,442 under home surveillance. Besides, 2, 93,650 persons have completed their surveillance period.
The bulletin said that Srinagar has 6,155 positive cases, 2,400 active positive, 3,603 recovered, 152 deaths; Baramulla has 2,137 positive cases, 441 active positive, 1,614 recovered, 82 deaths; Pulwama has 1,829 positive cases, 691 active positive, 1,108 recovered, 30 deaths; Kulgam has 1,609 positive cases, 169 active positive, 1,410 recovered, 30 deaths; Anantnag has 1,553 positive cases, 334 active positive, 1,186 recovered, 33 deaths.
“Budgam has 1,533 positive cases, 444 active positive, 1054 recovered, 35 deaths; Shopian has 1,520 positive cases, 188 active positive, 1,308 recovered, 24 deaths; Kupwara has 1,256 positive cases, 254 active positive, 976 recovered, 26 deaths; Bandipora has 1,022 positive cases, 393 active positive, 611 recovered, 18 deaths and Ganderbal has 672 positive cases, 298 active positive, 367 recovered, seven deaths,” reads the bulletin.
The bulletin said that Jammu has 1,555 positive cases, 717 active positive, 814 recovered, 24 deaths; Rajouri has 758 positive cases, 230 active positive, 525 recovered, three deaths; Udhampur has 623 positive cases, 206 active positive, 415 recovered, two deaths; Kathua has 594 positive cases, 89 active positive, 504 recovered, one death; Ramban has 589 positive cases, 53 active positive, 535 recovered, one death.
“Samba has 517 positive cases, 184 active positive, 332 recovered, one death; Doda has 311 positive cases, 48 active positive, 261 recovered, two deaths; Poonch has 275 positive cases, 101 active positive, 173 recovered, one death; Reasi has 226 positive cases, 146 active positive, 80 recovered and Kishtwar has 163 positive cases, 36 active positive, 127 recovered,” reads the bulletin. Out of 24,897 positive cases, 4,940 have been reported as travelers.
The bulletin has informed the people that, the best way to protect themselves from COVID-19 is by maintaining physical distance of at least 2 metres from others, frequently cleaning hands with an alcohol based hand sanitizer or washing them with soap and water and following good respiratory etiquette and hygiene. As a measure for social distancing in public places and workplaces wearing a face cover is compulsory.
